About Brynmawr
Brynmawr is a market town, network and constituent ward in Blaenau Gwent, South Wales. The town, some of the time refered to as the most elevated town in Wales, is arranged at 1,250 to 1,500 feet 380 to 460 m above ocean level at the leader of the South Wales Valleys. It developed with the improvement of the coal mining and iron ventures in the mid 19th century. Until the redesign of neighborhood experts in 1974, Brynmawr sat inside the region of Brecknockshire.
Preceding the Industrial Revolution Brynmawr was a little town settlement called Gwaun Helygen Cors Helygen in Modern Welsh, signifying "swamp of the willow" in English, and lay in the previous region of Brecknockshire. With the extension of the Nantyglo Ironworks lodging was required for the specialists and Brynmawr transformed into a prosperous town. In spite of the fact that coal mining has for all intents and purposes stopped, a vast mining historical center has been built up at Big Pit in close-by Blaenavon.
