Bridestones Placed
About Bridestones Placed
Close to the long causeway and in Todmorden, are the Bridestones, outcrops of millstone grit rocks and boulders which are ½ a mile long. Bridestones placed in Todmorden. Amongst these rocky outcrops are a number of strange-shaped formations that have been resulting from weather-related erosion over hundreds, if not thousands and thousands of years. One big boulder specially, known as ‘The Great Bridestone’ is surprisingly fashioned at its base, looking like an up-grew to become bottle, as though it would topple over at any second.
There are number of myths and legends associated with The Bridestones, many of these going returned to the mists of time. More currently, perhaps, there are a number of local traditions that have end up related to the location and its many, odd-fashioned rocks and boulders. The Bridestones are positioned approximately ½ a mile north-east of Eastwood Road – in which a footpath runs throughout the often boggy moor to the outcrops. Another course connects the north-side of the outcrops from Kebs Road, and from simply opposite Orchan House Farm at Fast Ends – it runs in a southerly path throughout Bridestones Moor. You can visit, explore and experience this place with your loved ones.
