About Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery
The Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery is the neighborhood historical center administration for the precinct of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. It is an exhibition hall with accumulations of Christian symbols, Egyptian pictographs, and nearby history, and in addition those of the previous Lewis Textile Museum. The exhibition hall is in a Grade II recorded working, at the intersection of Museum Street and Richmond Terrace. It was initially opened as a workmanship display and library in 1874, with the library involving the ground floor and the craftsmanship display on the main floor.
The building was broadened in 1893. During the 1970s, the library moved to Town Hall Street, possessing the previous premises of the Co-agent Central Store, giving more space to the showcase of the nearby and social history accumulations which framed Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. The most prominent accumulations incorporate the Japanese Print Collection which was amassed by Thomas Boys Lewis. The Manuscript and Numismatic Collections, the two of which were handed down by Edward Hart and the Icon Collection.
