About Barrow-in-Furness Town Hall

Barrow-in-Furness Town Hall is a Victorian-period, neo-gothic metropolitan building in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The building fills in as the base of Barrow Borough Council and houses various neighborhood government divisions; except for the housing office situated in Cavendish House, likewise Duke Street. The building was developed in a four-year time span essentially from neighborhood Hawcoat sandstone with Westmorland slate for the rooftop.

The town hall was formally opened on 14 July 1887 by Spencer Cavendish, eighth Duke of Devonshire to coincide with Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. At 50 meters (164 ft) tall, it among the tallest buildings in Barrow and exists in a Conservation Area with Grade II recorded status. Two expansive squares are arranged either side of the town hall. They are frequently central points for mass nearby festivals and occasions. The back of the town hall is finished and includes the statue of Lord Frederick Cavendish which was originally situated in the focal point of Town Square. An extensive chamber claimed auto stop additionally covers what was originally the site of an open hall and market.
