Addington Palace
About Addington Palace
Addington Palace is an eighteenth century chateau in Addington close Croydon in south London, England. It was based on the site of a sixteenth century lodge. The first home called 'Addington Place' was worked about the sixteenth century. An antiquated formula for Malepigernout or Dillegrout, a spiced chicken porridge, was truly made by the current Lord of the Manor of Addington to be served upon the Coronation of the Monarch of England. The Leigh family picked up this serjeanty after getting to be Lords of the Manor of Addington before the royal celebration of Charles II in 1661.
The Addington home was claimed by the Leigh family until the mid 18th century. He manufactured another house, structured by Robert Mylne in the Palladian style; a nation chateau with single-story wings. He passed on before it was finished in 1774 and it was acquired by his beneficiary, James Ivers, who needed to take the surname 'Trecothick' with the end goal to acquire the bequest. James proceeded with the work on the house, having the generous grounds and gardens arranged by Lancelot "Ability" Brown.
