Lutsk
About Lutsk
Lutsk is a city on the Styr River in northwestern Ukraine. It is the place of business of the Volyn Oblast and the workplace of the encircling Lutsk Raion within the oblast, though it isn't part of the raion. Lutsk has the popularity of a town of oblast significance, equal to that of a raion. According to legend, Luchesk dates from the 7th century. The first regarded documentary reference dates from the year 1085. The city served as the capital of the Principality of Halych Volynia until the upward push of Volodymyr Volynsky. The metropolis grew round a wooden stronghold built through a neighborhood department of the Rurik Dynasty.
At certain instances the location functioned as the capital of the principality, however considering that there was no need for a hard and fast capital in medieval Europe, the city did no longer emerge as an essential centre of trade or way of life. In 1240 Tatars seized and looted the nearby town however left the fort unharmed. In 1321 George son of Lev, the final potential inheritor of Halych Volynia, died in a war with the forces of Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and Lithuanian forces seized the castle.
