About Gorky Park
Maxim Gorky Central Park for Culture and Recreation is a Kharkov city park which includes over 3000 hectares of land. It is bounded within the southern corner by Vesnina Street inside the east - Sumy Street to the north - the so-known as elite non-public settlement construction, and in the west - Dynamo road corner and Novgorod. The origin of the park was from the City governing council who "put forth a proposition to plant timber on 20-40,000 square metres on both aspects of the Sumskoy avenue". The idea turned into that the area might be used for horse driving in a similar way to the Boulogne Forest. Teachers, university students, and faculty students all assisted voluntarily with the tree planting.
Each tree had a plaque planted subsequent to it displaying who had planted it. In 1899 in honour of the 100th birthday of Alexander Pushkin the dimensions of the park was doubled. In 1932 the park changed into multiplied again in length to its last size of 130 hectares. It changed into in 1938 that the park became given its call of Maxim Gorky Central Park for Culture and Recreation, two years after the dying of influential Russian and Soviet author Maxim Gorky. In 1940 the primary Children's railway, 3.6 km long, turned into opened within the park.
