About Berdyansk
Berdyansk or Berdiansk is a port city in the Zaporizhia Oblast of south east Ukraine. It is on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, that's the northern extension of the Black Sea. It serves as a workplace of Berdyansk Raion, even though it does not belong to the area. The city is named after the river Berda forming Berdyanska spit on the foot of which it is placed. Berdyansk is a very appealing region, domestic to a safari zoo, Water Park, museums, health resorts with mud baths and climatic remedies, and numerous water sport activities.
Berdyansk grew from a small settlement and a pier, built in 1673 through Zaporozhian and Azov Cossacks. In the 19th century, the Russian Imperial authorities started out to plan constructing a sea port within the Northern Azov area. In 1824, Count Mikhail Vorontsov, Governor General of the Caucasus Viceroyalty, sent a day trip to the Azov Sea. Its challenge was to locate an area to build a new seaport to help inside the defense of Russia's southern borders.
