Tunceli

Tunceli is a city in Turkey. It is the capital of Tunceli Province, situated amidst Eastern Anatolia Region. Previous names of Tunceli incorporate Mamiki, Kalan, and Dersim.During the Ottoman Empire, Tunceli was a piece of the district named Dersim. In 1847 Dersim was proclaimed a sanjak. The capital of the sanjak was Hozat. Amid the Republican time frame Tunceli Province was set up in 1935. In 1946 the previous town of Kalan was renamed as Tunceli and it was proclaimed as the capital city of the region.

Because of the Turkish battle of "Turkisation" Tunceli turned into a primary focus of Turkish authorities after the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
