About Samandag
Samandag, previously known as Suveydiye, is a town and region in Hatay Province of southern Turkey, at the mouth of the Asi River on the Mediterranean drift, close to Turkey's fringe with Syria, 25 km from the city of Antakya. The leader is Mithat Nehir. Samandag was in the past known as Suveydiye, Yukari Alevisik and Levsiye was formally named Samandag in 1948. Samandag lies close to the site of the old Seleucia Pieria, established in 300 BC by Seleucus Nicator, a general of Alexander the Great, in the Seleucid time that pursued Alexander's death.
Seleucia Pieria rapidly turned into a noteworthy Mediterranean port of the Hellenistic and Roman times, the port of Antioch. Samandag itself is a residential area of 35,000 individuals, near the city of Antakya. The neighborhood economy relies upon angling and farming, particularly citrus natural products, and Samandag has the quality of a nation advertise town, with young fellows humming through the lanes on mopeds. Around the midtown of Cevlik got from Seleucia, there is a long sandy coastline well known with daytrippers from Antakya, despite the fact that the ocean can be stormy. This is an essential settling zone of the jeopardized ocean turtle Caretta carett.
