About Malatya
Malatya is an extensive city in the Eastern Anatolia area of Turkey and the capital of Malatya Province. The city has been a human settlement for a huge number of years. The Assyrians called the city Meliddu. Strabo says that the city was referred "to the ancients" as Melitene, a name embraced by the Romans following Roman venture into the east. As indicated by Strabo, the occupants of Melitene imparted to the close-by Cappadocians and Cataonians a similar dialect and culture.
The site of old Melitene lies a couple of kilometers from the cutting edge city in what is presently the town of Arslantepe and close to the dependant region focal point of Battalgazi Byzantine to Ottoman Empire. Present-day Battalgazi was the area of the city of Malatya until the 19th century, when a continuous move of the city to the present third area started. Battalgazi's authentic name was Eskimalatya Old Malatya; as of not long ago, it was a name utilized locally.
In Turkey the city is prestigious for its apricots, as up to 80% of the Turkish apricot creation is given by Malatya, giving Malatya the name kayısı diyarı "apricot domain". The present city of Malatya was established in 1838, with the old site of Mitilene currently assigned as Old Malatya. The city saw fast extension in the 19th century, and before the century's over it had around 5000 family units, 50 mosques, 6 madrasas, 9 motels and 5 Turkish showers.
