Kastamonu is the capital locale of the Kastamonu Province, Turkey. As per the 2000 enumeration, populace of the locale is 102,059 of which 64,606 live in the urban focus of Kastamonu. The region covers a zone of 1,834 km2 708 sq mi, and the town lies at a rise of 904 m 2,966 ft. It is situated toward the south of the territory. The city is accepted to have been established in the 18th century BC. The town was known as Timonion Τiuoνιον in Greek amid the Roman time frame. The difference in name of the town dates to the tenth century AD.
