About Karaman
Karaman is a city in south focal Turkey, situated in Central Anatolia, north of the Taurus Mountains, around 100 km or 62 mi south of Konya. It is the capital locale of the Karaman Province. As indicated by 2000 registration, the number of inhabitants in the region is 231,872 of which 132,064 live in the town of Karaman. The locale covers a territory of 3,686 km² or 1,423 sq. mi, and the town lies at a normal height of 1,039 m or 3,409 ft. The Karaman Museum is one of the significant sights. In old occasions Karaman was known as Laranda.
In the 6th century BC, it went under Achaemenid rule until 322 BC, when it was demolished by Perdiccas, a previous general of Alexander the Great, after he had vanquished Ariarathes, ruler of Cappadocia. It later turned into a seat of Isaurian privateers. It had a place with the Roman and later Byzantine Empire until the point when it was caught by the Seljuks in the mid 12th century. Karaman was involved by Frederick Barbarossa in 1190 and by Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia somewhere in the range of 1211 and 1216. In 1256, the town was taken by Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey and was renamed Karaman in his respect. From 1275, Karaman was the capital of the Karamanid beylik. In 1468 the Karamanids were vanquished by the Ottomans and in 1483 the capital of the territory was moved to Konya.
