About Findikli
Findikli is a town and locale of Rize Province on the Black Sea shoreline of Turkey, east of the city of Rize. See Rize Province for the history the territory, when part of the Colchis i.e. Lazica, Roman Empire, Kingdom of Georgia and the Empire of Trebizond, brought into the Ottoman Empire in 1509, and quickly involved by Russia toward the finish of World War I. The town was in the past known as Vitze, which some case signifies "twig" or "branch" in the Laz dialect and was renamed Findikli after the hazelnuts developed in the town, despite the fact that these have now for the most part been supplanted with tea.
Researcher Ozhan Ozturk claims that the town's previous and local name originates from the word vis, signifying "town" in the now-terminated Thracian dialect and other Indo-European languages. Ozturk claims that Istanbul's old name Byzantion; the town of Vize in Kırklareli Province in western Thracian area of Turkey; the towns of Vice, Visir, Asagı Vice, Arhavi, Visera, and Vizera in the Pontus district of Turkey; the towns of Bizirne and Bizeri in the Paphlagonia area of Turkey; the towns of Visa, Visani, Viziru, and Vizireni in Romania; and the town of Vis in Bulgaria get their names from a similar birthplace.
