About Derik
Derik is a district of the Mardin Province inside the southeastern Anatolia place of Turkey. It has borders with Mazidagi, Viransehir and Kiziltepe. The town is first mentioned in the late 14th century, however a Roman fort shows that the location has been inhabited for longer. Prior to the Assyrian and Armenian genocide, Assyrians and Armenians formed most of the people within the district.
The Armenian population of the county continued to form the majority even up untill the 1930, whilst systematic kingdom persecution pressured many to emigrate. One circle of relatives keeps to live here, and that they preserve the antique Armenian Church. The Armenian church here is the only one inside the province that is energetic, and certainly one of handiest 7 in Anatolian Turkey that operates as a church.
Geographically the town consists of regions from Mazidagi foot descending in the direction of Ceylanpınar plains. Town area descends from the north to the south. The metropolis center is surrounded via mountains from three aspects and has a temperate weather with a few mediterranean climate effects. In the 1990, the nearby forests were cleared as they presented PKK shelter from the Turkish government. Currently there is a campaign to reforest the mountains.
