About Gasparee
Grande or Gasparee is an island in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, named Gaspar de Percín. The island area has 1.29 km2 0.50 square miles and is located 12 km west of Port of Spain. It is one of the "Bocas Island", which is located between the Trinidad and Venezuela in the Bocas del Dragon Dragon's mouth. Guspara Grande is mainly limestone, and reaches a height of 121 meters 397 feet at its highest point. Gaspar Grand is a natural limestone cave system with a mysterious pool, depending on the house of gaspites.
Other caves of this island include White Cave, Broge's Cavern and the Preplice Cavern. Plant on the island includes Yellow Poe, Giant Cactus, Hog Plum, Silk Cotton, Agave, Manicoke Fig, Naked Indian, Pelicans Flower, Queen-of-Forest Filipandula Osidis, Cow It, Sugar Apple and Salt-Fish. Wood Ligend has another cave on the island, a pirate treasure in the William Daimpeers Tunnel, which is easily accessible in a few days of the year. In 1783, Gaspar Grande was conferred by the Governor Jose Maria Chacon to the Gaspar D. Percin Rokey. The events of Gaspar Grande's history include the saga of Admiral Apodaka and the establishment of whaling stations on the island.
