Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

A mandatory place to see, on any visit to Chiang Mai, is the amazing and blessed temple of Wat Phra, which is situated closer to the highest point of Doi Suthep also referred as Mount Suthep. The temple is basically alluded to as Doi Suthep by a large section of people. It is considered as a very holy site by most of Thai people. The temple is located at 15 KM from the main city of Chiang Mai. Each tuk-tuk and songthaew driver in Chiang Mai will offer to take you on the 15 KM trip up the winding mountain street to Doi Suthep.

Constructed as as a Buddhist cloister in 1383 it is as yet a working religious cloister today. Funds are collected by gifts and donations and the lift charge go to help the priests living there and for support of the different structures and buildings of the temple. The design, statues, wall paintings and holy places seen here are absolutely amazing.
