About Wat Ku

This Mon style temple, located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River in Tambon Bang Phut, was constructed during the Thonburi era. Inside the old chapel, Mon-style fine paintings ornament the walls. The temple is known as the location where a ship carrying King Rama V’s Queen Sunantha foundered. Later on, a pavilion was built to commemorate Her Majesty’s death. Her body was temporarily placed in the monastery before lying in state in Bangkok. The ship, meanwhile, was later salvaged and used to enshrine a giant reclining Buddha image. A pavilion was also constructed as another remembrance to her death, imitating PhraThi Nang AisawanthippayaAsna in Bang Pa In Palace.

The temple is located in Tambon Bang Phut, Soi Pak Kret 3, Amphoe Pak Kret, Nonthaburi. To get there by car, from Pak Kret Pier, turn left into SoiWat Ku on Sukhaprachasan Road. Pass Wat Bang PhutNok and SuanThip for approximately 3 kilometers. The temple will be on the left. Alternatively, rent a boat at Pak Kret Pier and head towards north around 3 kilometers. It will take 10 minutes before Wat Ku Pier is visible on the right.

Wat Ku is open daily from 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
