About Lamphun
Lamphun is a town thesaban mueang in northern Thailand, capital of Lamphun Province. It covers the entire tambon Nai Mueang of Mueang Lamphun locale. Starting at 2006 it has a populace of 14,030. Lamphun lies 665 km north of Bangkok and 19 km south of Chiang Mai. Lamphun was established by Queen Chama Thevi as the capital of the Haripunchai Kingdom, the last and most northerly Mon kingdom in the region which currently frames Thailand. 77 Around 25 km south of Chiang Mai, it was built in the state of a conch shell, following the Khuang River on its east side and partitioned by canals at the rest of the purposes of the compass.
Ruler Chama Thevi is recalled in the wat of her name, which is said to be the resting spot of her fiery remains. Close to the town's principle morning market in the south-west of the city is a statue of the ruler at which contributions are as yet made today by residents. While as yet living in the north King Mangrai was visited by a few shippers from the Mon Kingdom, and becoming aware of the abundance of Lamphun he resolved to vanquish it, even against the exhortation of his councilors.
As it was considered difficult to take the city by power, he sent an able dealer called Ai Fa to pick up the certainty of the King Yi Ba, and in time he turned into the central priest and figured out how to undermine the ruler's position. In 1281, with the general population in a condition of discontent, Mangrai crushed the Mon Kingdom, and included the city and its riches to his kingdom, while Yi Ba, the last ruler of Hariphunchai, was compelled to escape south to Lampang.
