About Hui Kha kaeng Forest

Hui Kha Kaeng KKK is a famous world heritage site. It's a completely protected area that includes an immense area of Thailand's western forest. The forest area houses maximum larger mammals of Thailand where one can find Wild Water Buffalo, Clouded Leopards, Golden Cats, Tapirs, and Banteng. Particularly Banteng is something very common here what you can rarely see in other parts of the country. Thong Phak substation is one of the entrances to the park. After sunset, you wont be allowed to drive inside the park. You can set up camp inside the park and go for a pre-dawn walk along the road into the park. If you are lucky enough, you can spot some squirrel and long-tailed Macaque during post dawn period. The park head quarter is 10km down the road and one has to arrange a guide as well as lodging here. Tourists are not provided with any sort of special privileges. One can spend the afternoon in a hide. Just set up your place overlooking a turn in the river. There is every probability of witnessing Short-clawed Otters and Banteng. Have your lunch and get ready to move to the river side. In the afternoon you can see many Banteng by the river side. If you can arrange a special permit from the rangers, go for a night drive along the road from the HQ to the Thong Plak substation. If it is a moonlit night you will feel the real charm. The sightings here may offer you to witness the charming activities of a group of animals including Siamese Hares, Sambar Deer, Muntjac band some other wonderful species of animals. Golden Jackals, which are completely different from the jackals of India or North Africa are available in this forest. These Jackals are rather more striking than this animal usually looks. One can see a Salt Lick with a stack of tracks of Banteng which is very much common here. You can witness the funny activities of elephants going in herd. Be aware of them. Sometimes they may get angry and there is every possibility of getting squashed if you come under their feet. Grey-bellied Squirrel, White-bellied Temminck's Flying Squirrels, Siamese Hare, Burmese Striped Tree Squirrel, Small-clawed Otters are some other species of animals, which you can easily spot inside the forest.
