About Azm Palace
The Azm Palace is an eighteenth century Ottoman castle in Hama, Syria at the focal point of the city on the banks of the Orontes River, around 400 meters 1,300 ft south of the Hama Citadel. Ross Burns, creator of Monuments of Syria, apparently views the Azm Palace as "one of the loveliest Ottoman private structures in Syria". The royal residence has been utilized as a gallery since 1956, showing archaeological finds from locales in and around Hama, including the fortress. A critical display is that of a Roman mosaic portraying an artist playing a lyre. Widely harmed amid the 1982 Hama uprising, the royal residence has since been to a great extent re-established.
Not at all like al-Azm's royal residence in Damascus, has the Azm Palace in Hama had yards on every one of its two stories. The patio on the ground floor has a wellspring in the centre and is brightened with trees planted to give shade. A liwan with three sides is situated toward one side, to give seating to inhabitants. The reason for the patio on the second floor is to make utilization of breezes and the cool air. Stairs prompt the upper patio, where there is an excellent banquet hall; securing the exterior is an angled colonnade, while each surface inside the building is enhanced with painted woodwork, grouped stonework, and designed marble. A huge arch is worked over the focal territory.
