About Villmergen
Villmergen is a municipality within the district of Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. Two famous battles occurred at Villmergen. In 2010 Hilfikon merged into Villmergen. The vicinity became first settled between 500 and 58 BC, even though no facts and little proof survives of this agreement. During the Roman technology there were at least two villas, one at Heidenhubel and the alternative at the Schwarzhalde.
The first mention of the contemporary village become in 1185 when it become noted as Vilmaringen. In 1273 the Kyburger counts sold Villmergen to the House of Habsburg. A Kyburg citadel changed into referred to within the village in 1315. However no clear evidence of this fortress has been found. Most in all likelihood it became at the Heidenhubel that is south-west of the village, because in 1927 a rectangular basis became discovered there.
In 1337 the patronage proper to the village church became held by means of the knightly circle of relatives of Hallwyl. About a century later, in 1425, the rights to the church transferred to the Benedictine Muri Abbey. Between 1525-1531, the Protestant Reformation entered the village, although much of the populace remained with the Catholic Church.
