Poya Bridge
About Poya Bridge
Poya Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Fribourg, Switzerland. The bridge is 851.6Meters in total length, with the main dispersion of 196 meters above the Sarin River, which is the longest main area in Switzerland. The bridge was built to remove traffic from Zehurgan Bridge and surrounding areas and on 12 October 2014, the Zheringen bridge was closed for most motor vehicles. Several studies have been conducted since 1959 for a new crossing of the Sarin River in Friborg. In 1989, the local government invited five engineering firms to present the concept proposal for a new crossing.
The new bridge was planned in the 1990s and 2000s. Inspiration for the construction of the bridge was to remove a significant amount of vehicles from the Zehringen Bridge and the nearby Borg Quarter, the historical center of Friborg. 25,000 vehicles per day took a significant toll on the quality of life in the neighborhood and the city's emblem was downing the frigate cathedral. The main time of the bridge is 196.00 meters, which is the longest in Switzerland - and is located between two pylons of uneven height. The south-east pylon on the banks of the Sarin River is at an elevation of 107.65 meters above the river.
