Museum Murten
About Museum Murten
The museum's permanent exhibition reveals the 150-year archaeological excavation on the coast of Morat Lake. Heavy construction was done 150 years ago in the winter when the water level of the Swiss lakes was at its lowest level. These beliefs are understood as the remnants of ancient forms of habitation built by our ancestors, who entered history books in the name of "lake-dwellers". Thanks to the most recent archaeological research, they now have a good understanding of the daily life of villages on the side of this water.
The first lakhs of habitations existed before the Neolithic era. It was at this time that men were gradually becoming sedentary, devoting themselves to agriculture and animal breeding. Well preserved items from these groups on the edge of Morat Lake give an idea of the crafts and everyday life of the farming families. After seeing various exhibitions of the museum, visitors will discover many other aspects of the history of the Morat, as well as artistic and cultural.
