About Munsingen Castle
Munsingen Castle is a fort inside the municipality of Munsingen of the Canton of Bern in Switzerland. By the 12th century a castle was built in Munsingen metropolis from which the Senn own family dominated the metropolis. However, it was demolished with the aid of Bern in 1311. A timber outbuilding turned into constructed on the castle lands 3 years later, which later have become the cantonal psychiatric hospital. In 1550 the Schultheiss Hans Franz Nageli rebuilt the citadel building into its current look. It became renovated and repaired in 1749-53.
In 1977, the municipality acquired the citadel and transformed it into a municipal museum. The museum is open Friday and Sunday from October till April. It contains permanent well-knownshows as well as occasional temporary reveals. The first everlasting exhibit makes a speciality of the history of the city and on the Steiger circle of relatives who lived inside the fort for nearly 3 centuries. The 2nd everlasting exhibit focuses on the work of the well-known puppeteer, Therese Keller 1923-1972 who become a pioneer in the puppet theater in Switzerland.
