Munsingen
About Munsingen
Munsingen is a municipality inside the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. On 1 January 2013 the former municipality of Trimstein merged into Munsingen, and on 1 January 2017 the previous municipality of Tagertschi additionally merged. The village lies at the River Aare among the towns of Bern and Thun. Munsingen advanced from a Celtic village first settled in around 400 BC. The foundation of the name is unclear, although attributed to the Alamanni. During the early and middle La Tene technology the citizens of the village constructed approximately 220 tombs alongside the Aare river.
Some of the men were buried with their weapons and the girls and children have been buried with jewelry. A total of 1,200 objects were discovered from the village. The rich collection of artifacts and the clear stratigraphic layers at Munsingen have helped archeologists to increase a model for dating isolated graves from Germany to Romania to Italy. The surprisingly small range of individuals mixed with the wealthy grave items imply that the agreement at Munsingen became domestic to Celtic nobility. Two of the graves comprise skulls that show proof of trepanation or holes bored into the cranium. You can come here and explore this place.
