About Monthey
Monthey is the capital of the district of Monthey in the Canton City of Wallace, Switzerland. The palace located in the city center was built on a hill in 950, the houses of Monte had surrounded it. Monte was first mentioned as Montage in 1215. In the 13th century, the count of Savoy was owned by the village and its area. In 1352, the count of Amd VI gave residents more freedom. During the first part of the 14th century, there were many industries including silk production and grinding mills. The municipality is the capital of Monte District.
This urban center of the Chablais area is located on the entrance of Val d'Illiez and Pas de Morgins, on the left bank of Rhone on an alluvial fan of Vieze, which leads to Val d'Abbance. This includes the town of Monte City, Outreviez and Chaux and the excavations of Colombo-Muras. Monte is located in the south of the Rhone Valley, south of Lemon Lake. The former chemical company is Siba-Gigi now Novartis, Sinjenta and Simo and with metal company Giovanola, the Monthe Swiss industry is important, there is an oil refinery in Colombo-Muraz near Monte. The city is close to the famous winter sports area, Ports du Sole.
