Liebegg Castle
About Liebegg Castle
There is a small palace in Grabichen Municipality in Canton, Aargau, in Switzerland. It is located on an outer edge about 70 meters 230 feet away from the bottom of the Wynental Valley. The present castle came out of a medieval palace. In 1958, a cantonal agricultural school was opened near the palace. The origins of the palace and von Leibg family are not clear, although they were probably a junior line of von Trostberg family.
The first palace was probably built in the second half of the 12th century. About a century later the second palace was built in the south of the first. The first mention of the family is in 1241 when Berkhaard I and Ludwig von Liebig appear as witnesses in a document. At that time, he was an unbeliever knighter in the service of the counts of Quebec. When the Quebec Line ended, the Hubbsburgs became dominant over Liebeg.
Habsburg gave the von Lebbeg family a half share of Twining of LeBeg. The other half was given to Lord's of Arberg by Habsburg, who, in return, gave it to Von Lebags as an under-fair. In 1415, the city-state of Berne invaded and occupied Argos area from Habsburg. The palace was not attacked and the Von Leibagh family retained its land and palace under the new rulers. However, in 1433, Johann Oder Heimman von Lebig, the last male heir of the family died.
