About Hergiswald Church
The records of the Hergiswald begins in 1489, when the Swabian Johannes Wagner, a carthusian brother from Ittingen, settled right here as a hermit and cleared an area. He loved the assist of the Lucerne own family of Wyl, which belonged to the forest segment. 1501 allowed the bishop of Konstanz the mayor Jacob of Wyl and other donors, the construction of a chapel, which turned into consecrated in 1504. In 1516, Brother John died in the name of holiness.
In 1620 a new, larger chapel turned into delivered to the vintage chancel beneath the orderlies Ludwig and Jakob von Wyl. The Capuchin Father Ludwig von Wyl gave the shrine an energetic sponsor. He succeeded, with the assist of rosser and little founder and donor, to increase the chapel to state-of-the-art stately church and to supply after a sophisticated theological software over-richly with altars, photos and emblems.
1649 Loreto chapel north to the ship of the east-facing chapel, 1651 annexation of a Felix chapel inside the west, 1652 demolition of the 1620 chapel ship and production of modern north-facing church, such as the Loreto and Felix chapels and re-operating of the antique choir to the sacrament chapel. It is way to Father Ludwig that Hergiswald have become the most unique and bizarre of Lucerne's many pilgrimage sites.
