About Giubiasco
Giubiasco is a former municipality in the Belinona district in Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Former municipalities of Camorino, Claro, Gnoska, Gordano, Goodo, Molono, Monte Caraso, Pianiojo, Prinzo, Saint Antonio and Semimenta on April 2, 2017. Belin was merged into the municipality of Arizona. In 1900, the discovery of the great cemetery of Giubiasco, the unchecked treasure hunting and many items were lost. It was not until 1905 that the Swiss National Museum organized an excavation, which made it possible to save a certain number of tombs and document the searches scientifically.
Apart from this, limited archaeological excavation was organized in 1958 and 1971 to detect the edges of the graveyard. A large part of the collection has been kept in the National Museum in Zurich, while other items have been given to various foreign and Swiss museums. For example, in the British Museum there is an impressive collection of about 300 Iron Age artifacts from the site, most of which include La Terne, copper alloy ornaments and earthenware. They were originally excavated at various tombs in Giubiasco and later donated to BM by John Bruner and the Swiss National Museum. The latest discoveries are in the conservation office in Belin Arizona.
