About Burgdorf
Burgdorf is the largest town inside the Emmental within the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It was the capital of the district of the equal call until 2010, whilst it became part of the new Emmental district. Scattered archeological reveals indicate that the region around Burgdorf was inhabited at some stage in the Neolithic era, the Late Bronze Age and the Hallstatt. During the High Middle Ages the land that would end up Burgdorf changed into owned via the Kingdom of Burgundy and then after 1080 via the Dukes of Zahringen.
Either the kings or the dukes constructed a fortress at the left bank of the Emme river. Burgdorf is first mentioned in 1236 as in oppido Burchtorff, even as Burgdorf Castle is stated in 1080 as castellum Bertoldi ducis. The Zahringen dukes constructed a metropolis around the citadel within the last zone of the 12th century. After the extinction of Zahringen line, Burgdorf surpassed to the Counts of Kyburg. They increased the city in 1278 with the top-east section and between 1278 and 1300 absorbed the Holzbrunnen settlement which have become the decrease city.
