About Beyeler Foundation
The Beyeler Foundation or Fondation Beyeler with its museum in Riehen, close to Basel, owns and oversees the art series of Hildy and Ernst Beyeler. Art sellers Ernst Beyeler 16 July 1921- 25 February 2010 and Hilda Kunz 1922 -18 July 2008, called Hildy, created the Beyeler Foundation in 1982 and commissioned Renzo Piano to layout a museum to residence their private series.
The collection became first publicly exhibited in its entirety on the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid in 1989, and changed into subsequently shown at Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin in 1993 and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney in 1997. By constructing Renzo Piano's museum shape in 1997, the Beyeler Foundation made its series completely handy to the general public.
The museum is well funded, and it receives annual offers from the cantons of Basel City and Basel County and the commune of Riehen. Major companions of the Foundation are Bayer AG, Novartis and Swiss financial institution UBS. In 2006, approximately 340,000 people visited the museum.
