Ascona

Ascona is a municipality in Locarno district in Canton, Ticino, Switzerland. It is located on the banks of Maggi Lake. This city is a popular tourist destination, and organizes an annual jazz festival, Asana Jazz Festival. The oldest archaeological find in Ascona S. Mattero and S. Mitchell comes back in the beginning of the late Bronze Age. During the expansion of the cemetery in 1952, a necropolis was discovered in S Materno, in which the urns of 21 corpses were discovered. The urns were either buried simply or covered with a stone slab box.

They were the bones of the crematorium and in some cases, were similar to the bronze grave. Especially interested are bronze brochet, which are the oldest those found in Switzerland so far. They also provide important evidence for the relation of this region to the cultures of the Italian Peninsula. There are similarities to the last stage of the so-called cangrat culture named after a large necropolis in Milan in grave luggage. However, the materials used are from the later Bronze Age of the Alps. This allowed the cemetery to take the period between 12th and 10th century BC and explains that Ascona participated in trade over the Alps through Val Maslosina and Lake Maggiore with Pa Valley.
