Malung

Malung is a locality and the seat of Malung-Sälen Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden, with 5,126 population as of 2010. Historically, Malung is referred to as the leather capital of Sweden, with its leather-based enterprise and numerous tanneries. Malung also has a proud and antique tradition of so-referred to as "skinners" or "skinnare": businesses of leather merchants, tailors and tanners who might walk between villages to create and sell pelts, leather jackets or even footwear in exchange for accommodation and a modest pay.

The history of Malung as a village or settlement precedes neighborhood recorded records. It is but referred to inside the thirteen:th century story "Sverres saga" that the norwegian king Sverre Sigurdsson rode via a city named "Molung" at the same time as passing via Jarnberaland in the year 1177. The locals were defined as pleasant and helpful despite the fact that heathen due to their beleif in Aesir religion or old Nordic religion. This makes Malung the first agreement in Dalarna to be recorded in text.
