About Kronoberg Castle Ruin

Kronoberg Castle is a medieval ruin placed on an island in lake Helgasjon, 5 kilometres north of the town of Vaxjo in Smaland, Sweden. Kronoberg County, wherein it is placed, was named after the fortress. In 1444 Lars Mikaelson, the bishop of Växjö, constructed a stone constructing at the lakeshore. During the Dano-Swedish War of 1470–71, Danish forces destroyed the residence. It turned into reconstructed and fortified after peace became restored in 1472. During the Swedish Reformation the citadel and its property were confiscated by way of Gustav I.

In 1542, throughout the Dacke War, Kronoberg became taken over via rebels led by means of Nils Dacke. The rebel changed into suppressed in 1543, and control reverted to the crown. Due to its strategic location near the border among Sweden and Denmark on the time, the citadel became further fortified and have become a stronghold on this a part of Smaland. The king's son John III ordered extra upgrades that by no means had been done. The fortress had notable navy importance at some point of the Northern Seven Years' War.
