About Gammelstad Church Town
Gammelstad Church Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Gammelstaden near the city of Luleå, Sweden, at the northern stop of the Gulf of Bothnia. It is the best preserved instance of a type of metropolis that became as soon as great in the course of northern Scandinavia. As Church Village of Gammelstad, Lulea, it was indexed as a World Heritage Site in 1996. The metropolis is located approximately 10 kilometers upstream the Lule River.
At its centre is the fifteenth-century Nederluleå Church surrounded via 424 wood-built houses. The houses have been only used on Sundays and during religious fairs to accommodate worshipers from the encircling countryside who couldn't return domestic the same day due to the distance and difficult traveling conditions. Because the homes are built from wooden, everyday protection is required to save you rot; surveys had been achieved to document the quantity of current rotting, and snow is cleared often for the duration of the winter.
