About Galgberget
Galgberget is a nature reserve simply north of Visby on Gotland, Sweden. The location is bounded to the west through the cliff edge, in the east by County Road 149, and in the south by way of the metropolis of Visby. Galgberget is called after the still final gallows, built at some stage in the thirteenth century, in which nearby criminals used to be done. It is claimed to be the only preserved Medieval execution web site in Europe. The gallows encompass a low, round stone wall with 3 pillars of stone growing from it.
Wooden beams rested at the pillars, and criminals have been hung from those the usage of ropes and hooks. It is assumed that the gallows have been in use until 1845. The gallows have been situated in order that there has been a clear view of them in Visby and from the ocean, so that everyone should view folks who had been completed. In July 2008, in close proximity to the gallows, archaeologists from the Gotland Museum located the bones of some 30 those who had been done, presumably on the spot. The region has barren flora due to its limestone charter, the maximum commonplace plant being Prunus spinosa, typically called the blackthorn or sloe. It is a popular trekking vicinity.
