Pangong Lake in Ladakh is one of them. It is located about 160km away from Leh. The picturesque view of this lake is breath taking. You will be surely experiencing a wonderful drive to the lake. Your journey starts at Thiksey village. The vicinity is well known for its gigantic Buddhist monasteries, which cover up an entire mountain range. Earlier, Pangong Tso used to open to the Shyok River. But later the source was closed off for some natural damming. Presently, from the Indian side two different streams nourish the lake. As a result of this marshes and wetlands are formed at the edges of the lake. A chain of war memorials can be found in Tangste Valley which are built to commemorate the life sacrifice of the soldiers during the Indo-Chinese war of 1962. Army bunkers and trenches used during those days are present here till today. Sometimes you can see the sheepherders roaming around with their large herds of Pashima sheep. Apart from this you can spot some yaks with long tail.

2. Vegetation and wildlife near the lake:
Brackish water of this lake allows only a few organisms to live in the lake water. Other than some small crustaceans, you won?t find any fish or other aquatic animals in this lake. But one can spot plenty of ducks and gulls on the lake surface and surrounding areas. In the marshes around the lake, some species of perennial herbs and scrub grows. Different species of birds use the place around the lake as a breeding ground. During summer some of the wonderful iety of birds such as, the Brahmini ducks and Bar-headed goose can be spotted around the lake. Some of the wonderful species of wildlife include the kiang and the Marmot in common.
3. When to visit:
This amazing lake side is best to be seen during May to September. It will surely be a splendid experience.
