1. Mangalyaan is as big as a Tata Nano. And weighs 1,350-kg, which is even less than the weight of an average sports utility vehicle.
2. The Development and deployment of Mangalyaan took 15 months while NASA took five years to complete MAVEN.
While ISRO has been researching for a Mars mission since years, the project was only approved by the government in August 2012. It took ISRO just a little over a year to put together the spacecraft and the project.
3. ISRO is the fourth space agency in the world and first Asian country to have successfully undertaken a mission to Mars, after National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the US, Russian Federal Space Agency (RFSA) and European Space Agency.
4. A trip to Mars = 73,791+ trips from Jammu to Kanyakumari!
Mars, the fourth planet of our solar system, is at an average distance of 24,92,09,300 km i.e. twenty-four crore, ninety-two lakhs, nine-thousand and three-hundred kilometres from Earth. A trip from Jammu to Kanyakumari is around 3,369 km, so going to Mars would be like taking 73,971 trips from Jammu to Kanyakumari plus an additional travel of 1,001 km!
5. It takes 14 minutes for a signal to reach Mars!
Like it takes a second to make a phone call from one end of Earth to the other. When MOM sends any data, it will take around 14 minutes for it to reach ISRO's communication panels. Similarly, for any instruction sent from ISRO, it will take 14 minutes for the instruction to reach the MOM!
