1. Siachen Glacier
-Largest glacier in India.
-2nd largest glacier outside the polar and the sub-polar regions of the world.
-It is 75.6 km long and 2.8 km wide.
-The word 'Siachen' means "the place of wild roses".
-Highest battleground on earth.
-The volume of the glacier has been reduced by 35 percent over the last twenty years due to global warming and military activity.
2. Gangotri Glacier
-Located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttaranchal.
-It is the largest glacier in the Garhwal Himalayas.
-The best time to visit the glacier is between Mid April to May/June, and between September to November.
-Length of 30.20 km and width of 0.20 - 2.35 km.
-The Gaumukh, which is the snout of the Gangotri glacier from where the Bhagirathi river originates.
3. Pindari Glacier
-Located in Kumaon Himalayan Mountain range at an altitude of 3353 meters.
-It is located between the snow capped Nanda Devi and the Nandakot mountains.
-It is 3 km in length and 0.25 km in breadth.
-The Pindari river originates from this glacier.
4. Nanda Devi Group of Glaciers
-Located in the regions of Kumaon and Garhwal in Uttaranchal.
-2 Glaciers - Nanda Devi north and Nanda Devi south originate from the southern most slope of the Nanda Devi peak.
-The length of each glacier measure approximately up to 19 kms.
-Some of the other important glaciers in the lapse of Nanda Devi include Trishul, Kurumtoli, Nandakna, Bartoli, and Ramani.
5. Milam Glacier
-Located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India.
-At the height of 4250 meters above the sea level.
-It originates from the slope of the Kohli and Trishul peaks.
-It is spread over 37 sq kms and is approximately 27 km long.
-Milam is surrounded by spectacular 52 high peaks from all the sides.
