1. Leela Naidu (1940 - 28 July 2009)
The beautiful Leela Naidu won the Miss India title in the year 1954. She featured in the list of the "World's Ten Most Beautiful Women" as named by Vogue magazine. She starred in a few Hindi and English films.
She is remembered for her stunning classical beauty and subtle acting style.
2. Rita Faria
First Indian and Asian to win the Miss World title in the year of 1966. After the completion of her one year tenure as Miss World, she refused all modelling and film offers and opted, instead, for medical studies. She is the only Miss World who qualified as a doctor during her reign.
3. Zeenat Aman
Actress Zeenat Aman found fame after being declared the second runner up in the Miss India contest and went on to win the Miss Asia Pacific in 1970. She was the first South Asian woman to win the title. Aman, then, embarked on a journey of modelling and films and was one of those actresses who helped change the perception of Indian women as meek and submissive in the country.
4. Juhi Chawla
Bubbly and Vivacious, Juhi Chawla won the Miss India crown in 1984 and she is considered to be one of the finest of the lot. Juhi moved to a filmy career, during which, she captured the imagination of millions of fans.
5. Madhu Sapre
Madhu Sapre won Miss India Universe in 1992. She represented India at the 1992 Miss Universe pageant, where she was the 2nd runner up. In her answer to her final question at the pageant, Sapre talked about the lack of sports fields in India for athletes to practice on. Her rather unusual answer made her the third finalist that evening instead of the winner. Madhu, later, went on to become one of the most bold and iconic model India had ever seen.
6. Sushmita Sen
She was crowned Miss Universe 1994 by outgoing title holder Dayanara Torres of Puerto Rico at the 43rd edition of the Miss Universe Pageant held in Manila, Philippines, on 20 May 1994. She not only established herself as an actress but also showed her mettle as a woman by single-handedly taking care of her two adopted daughters.
7. Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai was the second woman to win the Miss World crown. After coming second to Sushmita Sen in the Miss India contest, Ash did not let that happen again and brought the title home. Today, Ash is one of the most recognized Indian faces on the global platform and has lived up to her title of being a 'Miss World'.She has received several awards and nominations, including two Filmfare Awards, and was awarded with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2009, and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of France in 2012.
8. Diana Hayden
Diana can be termed as one of the most charming Miss India winners with her perfect poise and crisp diction. She won the Femina Miss India contest in 1997 and was crowned Miss World 1997 at the age of 24 years. By doing so, she became the third Indian woman to win the Miss World pageant, after Reita Faria in 1966 and Aishwarya Rai in 1994. She was also the only Miss World contestant to score a hattrick at the Miss World contest in 1997- Miss Photogenic, Miss Beachwear and Miss World.
9. Lara Dutta
Lara Dutta Bhupathi (born 16 April 1978) is an Indian actress and supermodel who was crowned Miss Universe 2000 and Miss Intercontinental 1997. She was the second woman from India to be crowned Miss Universe, and has been the only delegate from India to win the crown since. She is, today, an actress, a producer and a very supportive wife to husband Mahesh Bhupat
10. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka was the last Indian to be crowned Miss World 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty - Asia & Oceania, becoming the fifth Indian to win the competition. Its been over 10 years that India has returned empty handed from the international contests. Priyanka has created a niche for herself in the industry with spectacular performances in various films. Through her successful film career, Chopra has become one of Bollywood's highest-paid actresses and one of the most popular celebrities in India.
