The word “hotels” originated in 1765, from a French word used to describe an establishment for providing shelter, food and other amenities. The word “motel” on the other hand, was coined in 1925, and is a blend of the words “motor” and “hotel,” meaning to describe a basic hotel that is accessed by motor vehicles or cars. Motels originated in the United States of America as Inns along the highways offering lodging to people on road trips. Motels are now found all over the world.
