1. About
Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is a Hindu Temple (mandir) located in New Delhi. Akshardham is also referred to as Delhi Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham and is best known for its area occupied which also makes it one of the largest temples in the world. This is the center for spiritual knowledge and also a source of Indian culture knowledge. The place is well known for the facilities and was built with the help of many volunteers and also many artists. This is also known as swaminarayan akshardham complex.
This temple has many visitors every day and was opened by the missile man of India Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam in the year 2005. More than 70% of the tourists, who visit Delhi, reach Akshaardham. This place is situated on the bank of the holy river Yamuna. The common wealth games village is located beside this akshardham.
2. Architecture
This holy place is constructed according to the Hindu vastu and the rules. There are many other facilities in this place; they are the mandap for abhishekams. There is a water show at one corner of this place. The IMAX present at one end will be playing all the early life stories of swaminarayan. With this architecture and all this place looks like home for god.
The height of this mandir is nearly 141 foot high and has an extension of 356 foot. The total place is carved with many statues like dancing artists and musicians. This place is constructed with pink colored sandstone from Rajasthan and many pillars and elephant sculptures. This temple has all the statues of gods like Rama, Sita, Lakshman and other gods like Shiva and Parvathi and Radha Krshna.
3. Exhibits
There are several exhibits in this temple. The first hall is for values and this is contained with life like robotics which explains about the rules of non violence, the rules of being a vegetarian and full of prayers and has many 3 D dioramas that used the state of the art robotics and also fiber optics, and also light and sound and other features like the sound effects like music and also the dialogues.
The big screen has 85 foot wide and 65 foot long. The special screen will be playing different movies and scenes about the life work of swaminarayan, they mystic India. There is a 27 foot long bronze neelkanth varni murti just outside this theater.
4. Boat Ride
The 15 minutes boat ride will be showing you the 10,000 years of the Indian heritage through small figures and robotics which resembles the life in Vedas. The contribution of the Vedas to all our forms of sciences and astronomy and also arts and yoga and especially mathematics are all shown. There are many other exhibits in this which show us about the ancient universities and educational systems in ancient India.
This place is alo with the contributions made by many historic people. The musical fountain is well known for its appearance at the night time. This has many steps and these steps are used for sitting and viewing the shows that are conducted during the night. This is a 300 feet fountain with 2870 steps and 108 shrines.
This palace is also looks attractive with the gardens grown on all sides off the temples. There are many plans and many development activities during the construction of this temple.
And on 17th December 2007 has been awarded guinness world record as the world’s largest temple.
5. Worlds Largest Hindu Temple
On 17 December 2007, Guinness world record was presented for Akshardham as the World's Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple. As per certificate:
BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi, India, is the world's largest comprehensive Hindu temple. It measures 356 ft (109 m). long, 316 ft (96 m). wide and 141 ft (43 m). high, covering an area of 86,342 sq ft (8,021.4 m2). The grand, ancient-style, ornately hand-carved stone temple has been built without structural steel within five years by 11,000 artisans and volunteers. Pramukh Swami, revered spiritual leader of BAPS, consecrated the temple on 6 November 2005. Akshardham showcases the essence of India's ageless art, borderless culture and timeless values.
