1. Crafts Museum

National Handicrafts & Handlooms Museum also known as the National Crafts Museum.
The museum is situated on the corner of the Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
One of the best museums to visit and explore a comprehensive collection of crafts and artifacts.
It was designed by an architect known as Charles Correa.
Collection of Tribal art, old toys, and fine saris and textiles.
Major attractions are wooden temple carts that were once used to carry the statues of deities during festivals.
Constructed to mirror a real village, you can see men and women at work, too.

The building which now houses the National Gallery of Modern art was originally built during the early 20th century.
One of the most endearing places to visit in Delhi for art lovers.
The British intended it to be a palace where the maharaja of Jaipur would live.
The art museum was established here in 1954.
The National Gallery of Modern Art museum houses an incredible collection.
 There are thousands of additional pieces held in storage due to lack of space but amongst those you will see include works by Amrita Sher-Gil, Raja Ravi Varma, and Jamini Roy, amongst many others.
Attractions: 150 years old Paintings, Paintings by British Artists namely Thomas Daniell and William.

3. National Rail Museum

The railway system in India is amongst the largest and oldest in the world
It is located in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
The 10-acre National Rail Museum is home to more than 75 railway cars and engines, including the Fairy Queen.
The Fairy Queen was built in 1855 and is the oldest working steam engine in the world.
A toy train offers rides around that site on regular days.
 Inside of the museum where you’ll learn about how the railway was built and how it has evolved.
Attractions: Signalling Equipments, Historical Photographs, Static & Working Models, antique furniture, Prince of Wales Saloon, Maharaja of Mysore’s Saloon, Fairy Queen, Fire Engine, etc.

4. National Museum

The National Museum in New Delhi is one of the largest museums in India.
It has around 200,000 works of art, both of Indian and foreign origin, covering over 5,000 years.
The first thing you’ll see upon entering the museum is a 13th century statue of the sun god Surya.
Deeper within the museum’s walls you’ll find a massive collection of artifacts and sculptures depicting ancient life in the Indus Valley.
You’ll also have the opportunity to see old jewellery, musical instruments, and even weapons such as Sha Jehan’s sword.
Attractions: Life Size Model of Dinosaur, natural history, environment, ecology, stuffed birds and animals.

5. Nehru Memorial Museum

The Nehru Memorial Museum & Library NMML is a museum and library in New Delhi, India.
It is an incredibly important attraction to anyone interested in the history of the Independence movement
This incredible mansion was originally built to serve as the home of the British Indian Army’s commander and later became the home of the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.
A few of the rooms inside the mansion have been historically preserved and there are a number of informative displays outlining Nehru’s life as well as his role in the Independence movement.
 If you move through the rooms in order you’re guaranteed a full account of his life.
Attractions: Photographs & Newspaper Clippings from the Independence Movement, High Ceilings, Beautiful Gardens, Spacious Verandas, etc.

6. Gandhi Smirti Museum

Gandhi Smriti formerly known as Birla House or Birla Bhavan, is a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.
Situated on Tees January Road, formerly Albuquerque Road, in New Delhi, India.
A national shrine and hundreds of pilgrims flock here each year to pay their respects.
The walls bear belongings of Mahatma Gandhi showcased beautifully.
Inside the shrine to Ghandi you’ll find an eternal flame. 
Across from the shrine is the national museum where you’ll find some of Ghandi’s photographs, personal belongings, and the clothes he was wearing when he was killed.
No trip to Delhi is complete without a trip to at least a few of these museums or shrines.
You’ll regret leaving without absorbing at least a little bit of the area’s history.
There is also a garden prayer ground where you may visit to pay tribute to the father of the nation.
