Maritime and Naval History Museum

The Maritime and Naval History Museum is a Maritime museum located at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. It has been established near to Fort Fredrick where the Dutch first landed to the island in the 16th century. This beautiful colonial building of an immaculate white goes back to 1602. It is the former residence of the police chief of the Dutch navy. Seriously damaged during the war, he was fully rehabilitated and shelters since 2013 the maritime and historic Museum of the city. At the ground floor, one finds several rooms devoted to the history of navigation, archaeological research in the maritime zone close and to the first conquerors to Trincomalee.
