About Teruel Cathedral
The Teruel Cathedral or Catedral de Santa Maria de Mediavilla de Teruel is a Roman Catholic church in Teruel. Dedicated to St. Mary, it is an eminent case of Mudejar design. Together with different places of worship in the town and in the region of Zaragoza, it has been recorded as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. The Cathedral of Teruel has its sources in the congregation of Santa Maria de Mediavilla, whereupon work began in Romanesque style in 1171 and finished with the erection of the Mudejar tower in 1257. In the second 50% of the 13th century, the Morisco alarife Juzaff rebuilt the old Romanesque work and blessed the working with three Mudejar naves of workmanship and block.
The Romanesque apses were supplanted in a similar Gothic-Mudejar style as right on time as the 14th century, as can be found in the leader of the significant sanctuary. The quantity of backings was diminished considerably, prompting more prominent radiance and extensive size in the pointed curve naves. Furthermore, the dividers were amplified. In 1423, the Aragonese pontiff Antipope Benedict XIII, the purported "Pope Luna," raised it to the rank of a university church. The Mudejar perspective has changed little from that point forward.
