Tarazona is a town and district in the Tarazona el Moncayo comarca, territory of Zaragoza, in Aragon, Spain. It is the capital of the Tarazona Moncayo Aragonese comarca. It is likewise the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarazona. Amid the Roman time, Tarazona was a prosperous city whose occupants were full Roman subjects; it was known as Turiaso. The city declined after the fall of the Roman Empire, and later turned into a Muslim town in the 8th century. It was vanquished in 1119 by Alfonso I of Aragon and turned into the seat of the bishopric of Tarazona.
