Salamanca

Salamanca is a city in western Spain that is the capital of the Province of Salamanca in the network of Castile and Leon. The city lies on a few slopes by the Tormes River. Its Old City was pronounced an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. It is arranged around 200 kilometers west of the Spanish capital Madrid and 80 km east of the Portuguese fringe. The University of Salamanca, which was established in 1218, is the most established college in Spain and the 4th most established western college, however the first to be given its status by the Pope Alexander IV who gave general legitimacy to its degrees.
