About Royal Walls of Ceuta

The Royal Walls of Ceuta are a line of fortress in Ceuta, a self-sufficient Spanish city in north Africa. The walls date to 962 in its most established part and the most present day parts to the 18th century. They remain to a great extent flawless, except for a few outworks, and are recorded as a Spanish Property of Cultural Interest. Parts of the walls, particularly the outworks, were destroyed to clear a path for urban improvement. Notwithstanding, the Royal Walls, their dump, and the main line of outworks stay unblemished, and have been re-established lately. On 3 July 1985 they were proclaimed a Spanish legacy site. The walls were one of 100 contender for the 12 Treasures of Spain in 2007 and the just a single of those in Ceuta.

Parts of the walls are available to the public. The Royal Walls are a land front running over the isthmus isolating Ceuta from whatever remains of North Africa. The walls comprise of two vast bastions at each finish of the divider, which are called Baluarte de la Coraza and Baluarte de la Bandera, and a littler bastion at the north flank. They are secured by a jettison loaded up with seawater. Batteries were likewise based on barriers at either side of the walls. The walls were encompassed by various outworks, comprising of hornworks, ravelins and counterguards. Today, the primary line of outworks stays unblemished, yet different parts were devastated over the years.
