Magic Fountain

The "Magic fountain" was built by Carles Buigas for the World Fair of 1888, in Ciutadella Park. Unfortunately, it was not the success story that they had hoped for. For the World Expo of 1929, they tried again. That was when they built the current fountain near Montjuic which, with colored light playing through the water, seems to make the water dance to the rhythm of the music that accompanies the show.

The shapes and colors change constantly. The effect is entrancing, making it very popular amongst children. Nowadays, there are 2600 liters of water flowing per second to create this wonderful show thanks to 3 concentric reservoirs, a recirculation system and the subsoil water from the Montjuic mountain. It is one of the most famous spots in Barcelona with an estimated 2.5 million visitors annually. The show is running every Thursday to Sunday in the summer months and every Friday and Saturday during winter. Each 30 minutes starts a new session and each one is different than the others. This is a light, music and water extravaganza that just can't be missed!
